Transforming Memories: Rose’s Journey to Honour Her Son

Rose on her Garden Bench

In June 2024, Rose’s baby son, Lawin, sadly passed away. Rose held onto his cot bed, unable to part with it. Its value and the memories it held were something she couldn’t let go of. “It was in the garage, collecting dust,” Rose says. “I just couldn’t let it go.”

Over time, Rose began to think about whether the cot could be transformed into something useful - something that could still hold meaning. She decided to pay someone to convert it, and started searching for carpenters. She asked around, posted messages on Facebook, but couldn’t find anyone who could help.

A friend then suggested she contact The Dusty Shed.

She spoke with Peter, who recommended converting it into a garden bench. He also recommended a friend, Irene, who supports the Dusty Repair Café once a month as the textile repairer, to make cushions to go with it.

The end result is now a bright, colourful, warm seat. It’s been a long journey for Rose, to find a positive way to remember her son and celebrate his life.

“I have had a rubbish time, and this is something that’s been done right. Thanks, Dusty Shed!”
