Give us a call – Tel: 07395 414683, ask us questions or leave a message.
Visit us – we are open Tuesday to Friday, 10am – 2pm.
On your first visit, we will show you what the Dusty Shed has to offer. We want people to know and understand the Shed, and for us to know and understand who you are.
If you then like what you see, you can fill out a membership form, or take the form away to complete later and drop it back in to us. If you need more time to decide you can visit us again.
After you hand in the membership form, we’d like you to continue to visit the Dusty Shed a number of times, to make sure you like the Shed and the Shed is a good fit for you.
You’ll be contacted in a few weeks to confirm your membership.
Why join The Dusty Shed?
People join for many different reasons:
- To make friends or simply find someone to talk to.
- To learn new skills or pass on old ones.
- To get out of the house and into a routine
- To regain confidence after illness, retirement, or bereavement.
- To take part in something that contributes to the wider community.
- Or just to have a cuppa, a chat, and a laugh in good company.
Why a membership
The Dusty Shed is all about bringing people together, especially older men who may feel lonely or isolated. Through woodworking, craft activities and time spent alongside others, members can share skills, build confidence, enjoy company and feel part of a friendly community.
We have a membership model because the Shed is run by and for its members. It helps create a shared sense of responsibility, where everyone understands how the Shed works, what is expected, and how we keep the space safe, welcoming and sustainable.
Membership also helps the charity plan ahead and cover some of the running costs of the Shed. Member subscriptions provide a small but important regular contribution towards things like materials, tools, equipment, maintenance and general upkeep. It also helps with fundraising, as being able to show that members contribute to the Shed demonstrates commitment, value and local support when applying for grants or asking others to invest in the project.
The Dusty Shed does not have paid staff, and members are not trained to provide physical or mental health support. For this reason, we have an important rule for joining: members need to be able to work safely and independently with woodworking tools, some of which can be dangerous. More experienced members are always happy to offer advice, demonstrate techniques and help people build confidence, but everyone must be able to take responsibility for their own safety and follow Shed guidance.
If you are thinking about joining, or want to see whether the Shed is a good fit for someone you know, the best thing to do is visit us for a chat. We usually invite potential new members to come along on Fridays, as we generally have more time to talk. However, if Friday is not convenient, please pop in when you can, Tuesday to Friday.
Feel free to call on 07395 414683, or use our contact us online form, to set up a visit
